The Blank Canvas
I decided to set myself the challenge of converting a geared bike into a singlespeed, without cutting any corners. This meant debrazing all cable guides and brazing on new hose guides. The finishing touch would be a full respray and new decals.

Debrazing
Triple cable guides under the top tube needed to come off.

Debrazing
All guides came off nice and neatly.

Debrazing
The rear mech cable guides came off too.

Cleaning up
A little wet and dry paper levelled the surface off nicely.
-
Brazing
I bought some nice braze-on hose guides from Argos Cycles and put my brazing skills to the test.
-
Brazing
I brazed the top tube guides on in an unconventional pattern. This is a far better way as it avoids any hose rub on the frame.

Powder coating
In the end I went for powder coating rather than painting. This is a far tougher more durable finish. The finished job is superb, very deep in colour and nice and glossy. Thanks to ABC powder coating in Nailsea for that.

The finished product
Here we are just after the first ride in the Lake District. The decals were made up by The Cycle Shed.
